SthlmsMusikTeater invites you to a breathtaking journey through transformative human thinking. The ideas of the Romanticism era brought revolutionary visions: for the higher good of the collective, the “I” needed to be freed and given its context. Could this be the recipe for our survival? Complex and thought provoking themes carried by humor and finess!

The audience is thrown back to the end of the 18th century in the melting pot Jena. In this city south of Berlin, revolutionary thoughts were born by emancipated philosophers, scientists and poets. It set the ground for the revolutionary era of Romanticism. What was said between longtime rivals Goethe and Schiller during an accidental and unavoidable encounter, leaving them inseparable until the latter’s death?  What was it Fichte declared in overcrowded lectures, fascinating all of Europe? Who was the adventurer Alexander Von Humboldt, and why was he more famous than Napoleon?

Find out how a pork chop can be mightier than both pen and sword, and how people of today manage and mismanage the ideas and legacies of the great thinkers.

Three composers add a mosaic of music to this piece: Katarina Leyman, Jan-Erik Sääf and Stefan Levin – in total accordance with the Jena Group’s idea of collective creativity. The tone of romanticism is interwoven with the contemporary. Text: Andreas Boonstra. Director: Eva Staaf. Idea: Jonas Nerbe.

The project is supported by Kulturrådet, Konstnärsnämnden, Stockholms Stad, Barbro Osher Foundation and Region Stockholm.
